A Victorian Scottish white metal mounted dirk, of conventional form, having a finely Celtic interlace carved grip decorated with white metal studs and an oblate pommel, the latter engraved "To John McHardy [surname erased] from his brother Alexander, 24th Augt. 1842", the pommels of the by knife and fork also engraved "J McHardy", the mounts tested as silver, blade 28 cm, dirk 41 cm overall
