A Second World War Free Polish Army medal, insignia and document group to Staff Sergeant Mateusz Kijowski, 10th Bridging Company, Army Group Polish Engineers, 2nd Polish Corps, comprising Army Medal, Monte Cassino Cross (No. 39810), 1939-45 Star, Italy Star and Army Group Polish Engineers badge, together with formation sign, collar badges, 2nd corps badges, ribbon bar and extensive paperwork including Legitymacjas, etc

[Little is known about Staff Sergeant Mateusz Kijowski (1899-1957) prior to joining the Polish Army forming in the east. He had likely been captured by the Soviets during the invasion of Poland. Kijowski served with the 10th Bridging Company, 10th Corps Troops Engineers throughout the Italian Campaign. Sometime in 1946, Kijowski came to England with the 2nd Polish Corps and until 1948 was stationed in hut 106 at No 2 Camp, Foxley, Herefordshire. By July 1948, Kijowski was a member of No 462 Basic Unit, Polish Resettlement Corps, Shobdon Camp, Kingsland, Herefordshire. The Death of a 'Mateusz Kijowski' was recorded in Bristol, around September 1957, and is believed to be one and the same.]
