William Lakin Turner (1867-1936)

"Maiden Moor, Borrowdale", being a study of a vast valley, as seen from a high moorland, with a beck flowing through forest and fells, watercolour, signed, dated 1906 and titled verso and within work, in gilt card mount and moulded gilt frame under glass, 32 x 41 cm overall

[ Son of artist George Turner, who was known as the "Derbyshire Constable", William is said to have inherited his artistic talent from his father, under whom he trained. He exhibited nationally including fourteen works at The Royal Academy of Artists, with his painting of Rydal Water being purchased by Beatrix Potter and still hanging at her former home Hill Top, now owned by the National Trust. He is best known for his Lake District views, created when he resided at Yew Tree Cottage, Applethwaite, Keswick. ]
