[Saung was a watercolourist born of royal descent in Mandalay, and acquired the nickname "The Prince of Watercolour" in Burma. He served as a clerk in the Forestry Department and later taught as an art teacher at St Paul's High School, before co-establishing the foundations of The Mandalay School with fellow Burmese artist Ba Zaw. He sold many of his watercolour paintings to foreign collectors throughout his career, and his work influenced many Burmese painters for years after his death.]
