A Free Polish Army decoration and campaign medal group to Lieutenant Jozef Beltowski, 15th Company, 5th Kresowa Infantry Division, Polish Army Service Corps, comprising Gold Cross of Merit, Silver Cross of Merit with swords, Army medal and Monte Cassino cross (No. 27586), together with extensive service and civilian documents, photograph albums, cap badges and formation signs

[Lieutenant Jozef Beltowski (1913-1990), born on 13th April in Nowy Targ, Southern Poland, after completing his secondary education, Jozef undertook compulsory military service from 1931-32 with the 51st Infantry Division, then joining the Reserves as a Corporal Cadet Officer. By March 1937, he was a member of the Polish State Police in Zyrardow, south-west of Warsaw. At the time of the German invasion, he escaped to Hungary and then France, joining the 11th Infantry Regiment. Jozef left France on 19th June 1940 and trained in Scotland with the 4th Canadian Rifle Brigade, 3rd Cadre Rifle Brigade and 10th Armoured Cavalry Brigade until April 1943, when he was posted to the Middle East, joining the 5th Kresowa Infantry and then the 2nd Corps through the Italian Campaign. After his release from the army in 1949, Jozef studied law at Edinburgh University, after which he worked as a solicitor and junior partner with the firm Henderson & Jackson. Josef Beltowski died on 2nd October 1990 at Aaron Nursing Home, Penicuik.]
